Post-Vietnam Career and Legacy

After his heroic service in Vietnam, Knott continued to serve his country with distinction. He held several command positions, including Commander of the 33rd Tactical Fighter Wing and Director of Operations for the Air Combat Command.

Knott retired from the Air Force in 1986 with the rank of Brigadier General. He had amassed over 9,000 flying hours and had been awarded numerous decorations, including the Distinguished Service Cross, Silver Star, and Legion of Merit.

Beyond his military career, Knott remained an active advocate for veterans and aviation enthusiasts. He served on the board of directors for several aerospace organizations and authored several books on aviation history.
