An American Student Notes on Dodging Cars and Flaming Matches Disappearing
I am an American student who has been living in China for the past year. One of the things that I have noticed is that the traffic here is much more chaotic than in the United States. Cars often drive on the wrong side of the road, and pedestrians have to be very careful to avoid getting hit. I have had to learn to dodge cars on a daily basis, and it is something that I am still getting used to.

Another thing that I have noticed is that flaming matches seem to disappear here. I have tried to light a match on several occasions, but the flame always disappears before I can get it to the candle. I am not sure why this happens, but it is something that I have found to be very strange.
I have also noticed that some things seem to be missing from China. For example, I have not been able to find any peanut butter or maple syrup. I have also not been able to find any American football games on TV. These are just a few of the things that I have noticed to be different about China. It is a very interesting country, and I am learning a lot about it every day.
Here are some specific examples of things that I have experienced while dodging cars and flaming matches disappearing in China:
- I was walking across the street when a car came speeding towards me. I had to jump out of the way to avoid getting hit.
- I was trying to light a match, but the flame disappeared before I could get it to the candle.
- I was looking for peanut butter in the grocery store, but I couldn't find any.
- I was trying to watch an American football game on TV, but I couldn't find any channels that were showing it.
These are just a few of the experiences that I have had while living in China. It is a very different country from the United States, and I am still getting used to some of the things that I have seen and experienced.
I am grateful for the opportunity to live in China and learn about its culture. I have learned a lot about myself and about the world during my time here. I am excited to see what the future holds for me in this amazing country.
